Welcome to the corporate Lufft Blog!

Since 2012 our managing director, employees and guest authors are blogging about the most important themes in the world of measurement and control technology. With the Lufft blog we created a platform, which shows us from another perspective. Dive into the world of development and research. We provide an overview about our worldwide projects.

We want to take you on a journey through various continents with reportage, interviews, background reports and feature articles. Find out everything about our project for the FIFA world championship 2014 in Brazil, the second highest sky scraper in LA or our contribution for the World Solar Challenge in Australia – the roughest race for solar vehicles worldwide.

Our authors are part of the development and distribution department or specialists in the field of measurement and control technology. We compose the posts understandable and try it without a lot of technical jargon.

Our Lufft blog thrives on participation and active communication. We welcome questions, suggestions, comments and feedback. At the end of each article you will find a comment box or use our contact form.

We hope you enjoy reading and hope to welcome you to the blog regularly.

Our Lufft Blog Authors:

Klaus Hirzel
Consultant and former Managing Director, G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

Degree in industrial engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1984, then 3 years at Bosch in logistics and 2 years at Porsche in controlling.
Since 1989 Managing Director of G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH.

What fascinates me about measurement technology:
I appreciate the fact that we get detailed insights into many climate-dependent applications with this technology – whether in pharmaceutical production, setting up a meteorological observation network in Siberia or in the control of photovoltaic systems and wind turbines for renewable energy. I also like to understand how an airport or a high speed train is controlled in extreme weather situations.

Lufft – Future inside

Helena Wingert
Marketing Manager, G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

Since January 2014 I have supported Tobias Weil in online marketing projects and PR. Until recently, this was part of a vocational study program at the School of International Business and Entrepreneurship (SIBE). Previously, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Advertising 2011 at Pforzheim University of Applied Science. After a period as an assistant in the product management department of a international opto-electronic company, I went to China for one year in order to work as productivity controller in the automotive industry. Then, I found my way back into marketing.

What fascinates me about measurement technology:
Lufft has taught me a lot about the precise sensor technology which can save lives. Especially in times of global warming, severe storms and high frequented streets, the pursuit of weather data is particularly important. This is the reason why I want to inspire potential customers all over the world and always supply them with the latest news.

Slogan: Lufft – precise, innovative, customer-oriented.

Georg Heinemann
Sales Optical Sensors, G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

In 2010 I received a double diploma in European Business Administration at the ESB Reutlingen (FH). Then I worked for almost four years in East Africa for the solar company Barefoot Power with an emphasis on sales and business development in Rwanda. Since 2014, I’m part of the Lufft team and have worked in Berlin as sales manager for the distribution of optical sensors. My core task is the international marketing and positioning of the OS, in particular by expanding the Lufft distribution network as well as through the support of end-customers such as national weather services.

What fascinates me about measurement technology:
In times of the climate change, meteorological measurement technology is required more than ever before – and this is a real niche product. In order to remain successful in this niche, we offer a repertoire of not only first-class products but also unparalleled service. We are also present in almost every country around the globe. It’s great to participate in such extreme internationalization processes and ensure that the name Lufft stands for unique and high quality meteorological measurement technology in every country around the world.

Jimmy Soon
Business Development Manager, Asia

G. LUFFT since 2000 with the aim to build up a partner channel network and alliances in Asian markets.
Furthermore I provide expertise and experience support to partners in the channel network.

I have been actively engaged in the industrial instrumentation business for the last 20 years, particularly in the business of testing and calibration services. This started with a job for a French multinational company’s subsidiary for 7 years before its management buy-out. Then I was involved with the local healthcare industry in new business of medical imaging technology for a period of 5 years before returning back to the industrial instrumentation business.

Slogan: Simple and affordable measurement technology… ASK LUFFT!

Tobias Weil
Marketing Manager, G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

Bachelor degree in business administration – specialization on marketing at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg, graduating year 2011. Then Master degree in International Management – specialization on marketing at the Steinbeis-Universität Berlin, graduating year 2013. Since 2011 working for Lufft in the online marketing section.

What fascinates me about measurement technology:
The temperature is after time, the most commonly measured size of our planet. It always amazes me in which areas the collection of environmental data such as temperature plays a major role. From a marketing perspective, it excites me in the dominated B2B measurement market as easy as possible to explain complex products such as touchless road sensor or an ultrasonic anemometer and market them.

Slogan: Lufft – tradition meets innovation!

Karl E. Schedler
Consultant in product and project management and customer care

I was born in 1952 in Oberstdorf, Bavaria, Germany and can look back on a long history in the measurement technology branch: It all started with a University Diploma at the Technical University in Munich (TUM), where I studied Communication Technology and Cybernetics. After receiving a scientific award at Max-Planck-Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried/Munich I was involved in technical diagnostic methods for cancer research (Mildred Scheel foundation), cytometry and protein sequence analysis as a scientific assistant over 6 Years. Since 1984 I have worked as a self-employed development and consultant engineer in Oberstdorf. With over 20 Years of experience, I became an expert in sensor technology and central computer data processing for traffic related environment and road weather data information systems. In 1989 I founded the company micKS MSR GmbH and took over the management until 2006. Now, I’m working as senior consultant at micKS and LUFFT in product and project management as well as customer support. I’m also involved in many European and national R&D projects, regarding traffic information services and weather impact on traffic (for example eMOTION, InTime, WOLKE etc.). I’m also engaged as member in workgroups for European wide standardization (BASt, DIN, CEN, TC337).

Slogan: Local weather data increases traffic safety

Udo Kronmüller
Sales of Wind & Weather, G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

After finishing my studies of production technology at the University of Applied Sciences in Heilbronn, I started to collect experience in the sales and marketing of drive, analysis and measurement technology.

What fascinates me about measurement technology:
Even after 15 years at Lufft, my fascination for measurement technology didn’t fade. This surely is due to the manifold fields of application I get in touch with through my customers. There, it can definitely happen that on one day I both wear a cleanroom overall at a pharmaceutical manufacturer’s site and rubber boots on a landfill. I generally enjoy being outdoors and therefore it fits quite well that I’ve been mainly occupied with Lufft weather sensors. In this business field, I’ve been especially attracted to renewable energies such as photovoltaics and wind energy – now, even in my home the power comes from the roof. Weather phenomena itself are very exciting; observing how more and more weather critical processes interfere in our industrialized procedures and how new business models can be developed out of it, is even more exciting.

It’s all about weather!

We are always happy about new topics, ideas and fresh air in our Lufft Blog!
